Occasionally, families contact us that just have a change of heart. Jolene’s family were descendants of pig farmers. They got Jolene when she was a small piglet, and hand raised her to begin their own breeding operation. They planned to partner with a friend of theirs who would provide a male they could breed her with. Fortunately for our girl, that never happened and they decided pig farming wasn’t for them. Since they had been caring for Jolene for nearly 3 years, they couldn’t bear to send her to slaughter. We are very grateful to people that will stand up for the animals, especially when it means challenging social norms and family tradition.
