Hurricane baby Ezra! You may remember him from the very beginning. He, Eli and Silas all went straight from North Carolina to the University of Tennessee for further diagnostics and treatment. Ezra had a really big bulge on his tummy, indicative of a hernia. After some scans, it was determined that Ezra had scar tissue from an abscess that ruptured internally. Several of the babies had infections, on their bellies and skin. Open wounds and injured legs from breaking out of the factory farm and then swimming in contaminated water full of debris to high ground. While Ezra's belly was likely very painful when it was infected, the antibiotics he received while in quarantine in NC had started healing everything. So our boy escaped the need for surgery, and will always have a bit of a saggy belly as a reminder of where he's been. He has chosen to accept his new life here at the sanctuary though, and we hope memories of his past life fade away!
